Lease Extension Form

Create Document. A lease extension addendum is a contract that further extends the term of an existing lease agreement. The addendum will establish a new lease termination date that both the landlord and tenant agree to.

The Lease Must be in Writing It does not matter if the lease is handwritten or typed. If the lease is for more than one year, it must be in written form and contain the following terms.

A lease and addendum are esentially the same thing, 'the lease'. The addendum is part of the lease, it does not stand on it's own. If the lease and addendum say different things, but one does not supercede the other, it's ambigious, and the least restrictive clause stands.

The letter should state the name, address and contact details of the tenant and the landlord. It should be dated according to any agreement for extension. For example, leases are usually extended or discontinued one or two months before the expiry date.

Contract extension: an existing contract is continued for a period of time.Contract renewal: an existing contract endsby, for example, expiringand the parties agree to enter into a new contract (usually for the same or very similar services).

Step 1: Obtain a Written Request. Invite the tenant to submit in writing the request to add another person to the lease. Step 2: Check the Property's Occupancy Limit. Step 3: Acquire a Completed Rental Application. Step 4: Make a Decision. Step 5: Review the Details With the Tenants.

By definition, a lease renewal is a new lease agreement, whereas a lease extension is a continuation of the original lease agreement. Generally speaking, the practical effect of either is that the parties to the lease continue the landlord-tenant relationship beyond the expiration of the original term of the lease.

Adding an Addendum An addendum must include the basic elements of any landlord/tenant agreement. You should include the date, the address of the rental property and the names of each party just as you would in the original lease.
