Police are not allowed to keep you under arrest without charge indefinitely. Unless you are suspected of terrorism, they can only keep you under arrest for six hours before they either charge you with an offence or release you from custody, unless an extension is granted by a detention warrant.

If a law enforcement officer stops an individual with an outstanding bench warrant against him, the person may be detained on the warrant, and may be held in jail until a bond is posted or a hearing is held on the warrant.

A bench warrant is commonly issued when an individual fails to follow the rules of the court or fails to comply with a court order. An arrest warrant is issued once sufficient evidence of criminial activity has been gathered and probable cause has been established.

Men: wear shoes with socks; long pants (on pants with belt loops, wear a belt); collared shirt (tucked in) preferably with a tie, with or without a jacket. Women: wear shoes; a dress, skirt (preferably no more than two inches above the knee) or long pants; a blouse, sweater or casual dress shirt.

Dress appropriately While there is no written dress code for the courtrooms, certain attire is not considered suitable. This includes shorts, swimsuits, tank tops, and slippers. Non-prescription dark glasses and hats must be removed once you enter the courtrooms.

Fancy evening wear. Unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb, leave all evening gowns, tuxedos, and anything with a sequin on it at home. Dressy shoes. In Hawaii, you'll want to wear comfortable shoes and be ready for an impromptu walk on the beach at any moment. Snorkel gear. Sun lotion of SPF 4. Snake repellant.

Wear slacks and a sweater. Wear pants and at least a half-sleeve length blouse. If you are having a clothing emergency and need to show up in a pair of jeans, dress them up. For men, throw on a sweater and a dress shirt with it; for women, add a pair of appropriate heels and throw on a blazer over your top.

A court order is a legal command issued by a judge or other judicial official. Court orders are sometimes referred to by other names such as magistrate's order, search warrant, show cause order, order to appear, summons or clerk's order.
