Turn On Signature Release For Free

If you know a FedEx package is coming that requires a signature, you can usually just leave a note for the delivery driver given permission to leave the package. The note must reference the tracking number, delivery address, and name and signature of the person signing. Your cell phone number is also a good idea.

If the shipment requires a direct or adult signature, then someone must be available to sign in person. If someone is not home to sign for a direct or adult signature, the courier will leave a door tag or reattempt delivery.

If the recipient isn't home, the USPS driver leaves a note. This note tells the recipient the next scheduled delivery time or the local Post Office location where they can claim their package. USPS will make 1-2 delivery attempts beyond the first.

Release Signature on File - The sender or recipient used their option of authorizing delivery of a package with a release signature that FedEx has on file.

Whether we're delivering a parcel or pallet at a business, store, or institution, we always ask for a signature upon receipt. For home delivery to consumers, we only ask for a signature if the shipper has opted for this option. The signature is immediately displayed in track and trace.

It's to prove you accepted the package and it will not be left without an adult signing for it. It is usually only required for relative expensive items. Otherwise some people would claim it was never received or if it was left on your porch it might have become a jackpot for a porch pirate!

The recipient has the option to authorize the shipment to be released without anyone present. This change can be requested for FedEx Express packages through FedEx Delivery Manager® or by signing a FedEx door tag.
