Calling your rental applicant's previous landlords for a reference is standard practice in tenant screening.Regardless of the reason, lying on a rental application is a major tenant screening red flag. If you discover your applicant has lied about a rental reference, you can (and should) deny them housing.

Landlords will collect rental references from interested renters via a rental application. One thing that is commonly found on rental applications is the request for personal, or character, references. As a landlord, you want to do a comprehensive background check on the tenant which includes calling tenant references.

To do this, first log into your Zillow Rental Manager account, and select the property you wish to view applications for. Select Find tenants, then View all applications. From here, select the application you wish to print and click View on either the application or credit report.

You can view the status of your applications from the Applications section of your listing in Zillow Rental Manager. Completed applications will show up under Completed applications.

Once in your lease hub, you will see the option to 'View Lease'. If you click on 'View Lease' you will then have the option to download the lease as a PDF and print your PDF file as needed.

How do I edit my application? Once an application has been submitted, it cannot be changed. You can update information on your application by withdrawing the application, making your desired changes, and resubmitting to the same property.

Though uncommon, a landlord may decide to file charges against a tenant that lies on a rental application, especially if the falsehood is discovered post-lease signing. Lying on a rental application is technically fraud.
