While most F1 drivers are paid by teams, some 'pay drivers' also pay to compete in Formula 1. Drivers must complete 184 miles (300 kilometers) of racing in a recent Formula 1 vehicle. You can complete this driving requirement during official pre-season, in-season, and post-season tests, but the entire portion must be completed within 48 hours.

How do you get superlicence points? While drivers need to accrue at least 40 superlicence points in three years, as well as competing in at least 80% of two single-seater seasons, there are a multitude of ways that a driver can build up points.

The FIA Super License is a compulsory license for drivers to compete in Formula 1 to ensure that they are suitable to race in the category without posing a risk to others. The Super License has an annual fee of ?10,000 plus ?2,000 for each world championship point earned throughout the season.
