Article Number. 000002963. Permit Imprints are a way to pay for business (also known as discount or bulk) postage. It is one of three business mail payment options, the other two being meters and precanceled stamps. Permit imprints are the only postage option that can ONLY be used for business mailing.

The ?Mail Anywhere? program is a benefit to Full-Service customers and allows them to use a single permit to present Full-Service or mixed Full-Service mailings at any Business Mail Acceptance site. This simplifies permit management and enables the customer to maintain a single permit to enter and pay for mailings.

The indicia must be placed in a clear area that is free from any other text, graphics or markings. The actual size of the indicia must be a minimum of one-half inch high by one-half inch wide. It must be placed no more than 1.5 inches below, or to the left of, the upper right hand corner of your postcard.

By/For. A By/For Error is logged when the Mail Owner and Mail Preparer are not identified or are not accurate in the eDoc. The Mail Owner and Mail Preparer identifiers (MID, CRID, or Permit) that are provided in the eDoc are checked to see if they exist in Postal Service reference systems.

The permit itself is simply U.S. Postal Service, or USPS, permission to mail mail a certain way. When someone applies for a mail permit, they are given a number associated with their account. This number is imprinted on mail sent using the permit.

You can print the permit imprint indicia onto a label and apply that to your mailpiece.

A mailing permit is permission to use a certain postage payment method for commercial mailings. Instructions for applying for a mailing permit are included under each method of payment. There is no fee to apply for a permit to mail with precanceled stamps or a postage meter.
