Titles of books, plays, films, periodicals, databases, and websites are italicized. Place titles in quotation marks if the source is part of a larger work. Articles, essays, chapters, poems, webpages, songs, and speeches are placed in quotation marks.

When you write footnotes, you can choose to format them at the bottom of the page (footnotes) or on a separate page at the end of the paper (endnotes). Place your endnotes after the reference list on a separate page with its own title: Endnotes. This is where you can list all your notes.

In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. The footnote might consist of the type of work and author's name along with other information related to the type of citation.

A footnote is a note that provides additional information or references for the reader. A footnote is indicated with a superscript numeral (like this1) within the text that corresponds to the same numeral at the bottom of the page, which is followed by the reference or additional information.

The footnote/endnote begins with the same superscript number as the one that appears in the paper and is followed by a period. Footnotes/endnotes always include a specific page number or numbers where the cited information can be found. The first footnote/endnote to a source provides the full publishing information.

To create a footnote in APA style, you'll add a superscript number after the punctuation. The exceptions are dashes and parentheses. Place footnote numbers before dashes and inside parentheses.

When using Modern Language Association (MLA) style, you cite directly to the note in your in-text citation using the letter "n" followed by the footnote number. In your "Works Cited," however, you want to cite the full work, not just the footnote.
