The question “Is hospice care free?” is frequently asked by patients. In response to that question, the answer is no. The only reason this is not free is the fact that payment is required. There are usually two sources of funding available for hospice care, government or private insurance companies.

Note: All services must be rendered in ance with Medicare requirements. Hospice is a covered optional benefit under Medi-Cal with two 90-day periods, beginning on the date of hospice election, followed by unlimited 60-day periods.

Moreover, the patient's life expectancy should not be more than six months. If the can doctor finds the patient treatable, they are put in palliative care instead.
