There are two ways a guest can qualify for exemption from the tax. Guests must have stayed at the motel/hotel for more than 31 days (in the calendar quarter). Guests who are part of the Federal Government and residing on official business are exempt.

All lodging facilities located inside the boundaries of St. Louis County must pay a room tax on the room sales for each calendar quarter. The tax is 3.75% for the Convention and Tourism Tax and 3.5% for the Convention and Sports Tax.

Form RD-106 is used by hotels or motels to file and pay the Convention and Tourism (C&T) Tax of 7.5% on the amount charged for sleeping rooms. The tax applies to all sales or charges paid by transient guests for a sleeping room and its furnishings and for the services accompanying the use of the room.

(A) An excise tax is hereby levied and imposed upon each transaction in Lucas County by which lodging is or is to be furnished by a vendor to a transient guest or guests, at the rate of seven (7%) percent of the rent for each such transaction, on and after March 1, 2007.

The tax is withheld by the payer at the rate of 15% on the gross amount before payment.
