The Decatur County Courthouse in Greensburg is known for a tree which grows from the top of the Courthouse Tower, giving Greensburg its nickname, "Tree City". There have been one or more trees growing continually since the first tree was noticed in the early 1870s. Later, other small trees appeared on the clock tower.

Greensburg (Decatur County) is known for its world-famous tree that is growing out of the courthouse tower in the heart of Greensburg's downtown. But, also in downtown, you can find some of the coolest artwork you have seen in a small town, with artistic murals found just about around every corner.

After 1850, Greensburg became a growing county seat with inns, small businesses and hardworking residents. It was a railroad stop and the discovery of large areas of soft coal nearby made it the center of a vigorous mining industry in the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Greensburg, Indiana, occupies a unique place among the cities of the world by reason of trees that are growing from the roof of its courthouse tower. Early in the 1870's, our citizens noticed what seemed to be a small sprig growing on the northwest corner of the courthouse tower.

The South Georgia Judicial Circuit has two judges, Chief Judge Judge J. Kevin Chason and Judge Heather Lanier.
