The research statement (or statement of research interests) is a common component of academic job applications. It is a summary of your research accomplishments, current work, and future direction and potential of your work.

Open your research statement with a section that gives the "big picture" of your research interests, summarizing your past work and describing your future research goals. Consider the major themes or issues that unite the research projects on which you have worked in the past and describe these in this opening section.

Statements should avoid naming specific organizations as this statement will be sent out to multiple organizations. An effective statement balances broader interests with areas of focus.

A Statement of Interest is a crucial part of most graduate school applications. It may also be called a "statement of intent", "description of research interests" or something similar. Basically it is your opportunity to tell the graduate program:What you hope to achieve in the graduate program.

Your statement of purpose shouldn't have any spelling or grammatical errors. Use strong, clear, and concise writing. Avoid cliches and repetitive language. Stay away from overly informal language. Keep a positive and confident tone.
