Introduction
This
Pleading paper macro is designed to provide users with the ability to generate
lined and numbered pleading paper with Microsoft Word.
The
macro is designed to work with any font. Recommended fonts are Courier, Times
Roman and Arial.

Installation
To install
this macro, download the file "uslf.exe" and place it is a directory
you can locate.
After
downloading, go to Start, Run and Browse to locate the file
"uslf.exe". Then click ok to install.
Follow the
instructions. Normally when complete the installation program will place the
file
in your
startup directory for Word. i.e. c:/Program Files/Microsoft
Office/Office/Startup/

Basic Use
Instructions
To
use the macro make sure the macro is available in your toolbar after you run
the set up program.
If
not, follow these instructions to make the macro available after you run the
set up program:
Step 1: Click on tools.
Step 2: Click on
templates and ad-ins.
Step 3: Click Add.
Step 4: Browse to the
startup directory under MS Word (or the directory where
the file was installed during the installation step
above). This is usually
located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\Startup\. Check
under Tools – Options – File Locations – Startup to
verify this path.
Step 5: Click on USLF
To
use the macro, click on USLF Pleading Paper.
This will open the macro options explained below.
Once
you have chosen the options, click ok.
The macro will generate the lines and numbers. You are now ready to begin typing your document.

Macro Options
- All documents will have a double line on
the left side.
- Numbering options are listed in the pull
down menu at the top of the macro dialog box.
-Numbered Lines 1-28
-Numbered Lines 1-27
-No Numbers.
- Single Line on Right Side. This is checked by default. If you do not
desire a line on the right unclick this option.

Justification
- Select full justified or left
justified.

Margins - Set as desired.
- Left margin default is 1.5
- Right margin default is .5
- Top margin default is 1.0
- Bottom margin default is 1.0

Select Font and Font Size
- Use the pull down menu to select
font style and size. Default is Courier 12 pts.
Note:
If courier is not available on your machine, the default will be set to the
default font of the current document (or your Normal template's default font,
typically Times New Roman 10 pt.).

Document Title in Footer
- If desired, type the document
title in this field. It will be placed
in the footer.
- Select whether you want the title
to be aligned left or center.

Page Numbers
- Set page number location. You may
select center or right. If you select
center page
numbers and a center title in the footer, the page number will appear
above the title.
- You may also select no page
numbers.

Typing Your
Document
Type
your document normally. To switch
between single and double spacing use the paragraph spacing items on the
toolbar next to the USLF Pleading Paper button. You must use either
"Single Aligned" or "Double Aligned" for the text to line
up with the line numbers.
Keyboard
Shortcuts:
Alt. 1 = Single Spacing Aligned.
Alt. 2 = Double Spacing Aligned.
Working with aligning text to line
numbers
If you begin with double spacing
all text should line up with the line numbers. To switch
between double and single, select
the single aligned option at the end of the last double
line you desire.
Example:
1. The Plaintiff resides on the other
side of the mountain, located to the
2. north of the town. [Now select
single aligned]
[space]
3. Begin typing single spaced text.
This is a single line.
4.
To switch between single to double
select the double aligned option as follows:
If
the last single line is aligned with the line number simple select double lined
at
the
end of the last single line, and hit enter and begin typing.
If
your last single line ended between the line numbers hit enter at the end of
the
last
single line, then select double aligned, hit enter and then begin typing.
