You must register the vehicle at a DMV office or by mail. You cannot do this over the phone, or online. Office procedures have changed due to COVID-19.

You can transfer the ownership by selling or giving away your vehicle as a gift; or you can transfer the registration to another vehicle that is in your name.

In simple situations where you own the vehicle outright and wish to transfer ownership to someone else, all you must do is complete a title certificate. Once you have filled out and signed the certificate, the buyer or recipient can take the title to a local DMV office and officially transfer ownership.

You'll need to have the title transferred in NY or signed and notarized along with a receipt showing amount paid and any taxes paid. New owner takes his paperwork ( or title ) to a notary here, has title transferred, pays any taxes that were not included.

(Agent's signature) acting as Agent for (Principal's name) (Principal's name) by (Agent's signature) as Agent. If you can't tell the agent's name from the signature, it might be better to pre-print.

They should sign either: a) Jane Smith principal's name, by Sally Stevens agent's name under Power of Attorney, or b) Sally Stevens, attorney-in-fact for Jane Smith. Make sure the agent brings the POA document with them. Sometimes the agent must attach a copy of the document to the title or deed.

Back of the title - sign name(s) in the box where it reads "Seller's Signature." Back of the title right next to where you signed name(s) - print name(s) in the box where it reads "Seller's Name (Print in Full)."
