Ihss North Carolina

Free health insurance in North Carolina is offered by Medicaid. The federal government as well as Department Health/Human Services pay for this service. It provides medical care, prescription drugs, basic dental or eye care to the low income and those in poverty who are currently uninsured.

Twelve states (Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Vermont, and Wisconsin) allow these state-funded programs to pay any relatives, including spouses, parents of minor children, and other legally responsible relatives.

Age 65 or older.

Commonly, it is an adult child who is paid via Medicaid to provide care, but some states, such as Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Wisconsin, even provide funds for spouses to be paid

Family members are not eligible to be paid as caregivers, except under rare circumstances, through this program. However, the Adult Family Living (AFL) program is offered as an option (under 'Assisted Living Services') in the CHCPE program.

Under the Attendant Services Program, participants serve as employers of their own attendants, who provide services similar to those offered under the Personal Care program.Under this program, some family members can receive payments for providing caregiving services, including spouses and adult children.

Project CARE is a coordinated delivery system that responds to the needs, values and preferences of individuals who directly care for a family member or friend with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia (ADRD).

This program is available in all NC counties. However, enrollment is limited, as each county is assigned a specific number of slots for participation. While overall the program has not reached maximum enrollment, it may have done so in specific counties.
