Investments in general are money put into use for profit, or the property or business interest purchased for profit. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is the principal federal regulatory agency that regulates the securities industry. The primary mission of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is to protect investors and maintain the integrity of the securities markets. 

Investments may include the following, among others:

  1. monetary assets, a share, stocks and other securities;
  2. movable and immovable property - land, buildings, structures, equipment and other material valuables;
  3. lease rights to land and the use of natural resources (including concession), patents, licenses, know-how, experience and other intellectual valuables;
  4. other property or intellectual valuables or rights provided for by the law.
